L’île semblait flotter hors du temps. Les collines sèches respiraient au rythme des alizés, les pirogues dormaient sur les plages de sable blanc et, chaque soir, le soleil disparaissait derrière l’océan comme une pièce d’or engloutie.
Au beau milieu d'un champ, vivait un arbre. Un arbre comme on en voit dans chaque coin de rue. Ordinaire. Sans intérêt. Dans la limite du médiocre. Il le savait, d’ailleurs, et il en avait marre.
